We were excited about Penelope’s Taco place coz they had an interesting vegan menu… and ordered five tacos and the strawberry horchata on the waiter’s recommendation. Unfortunately, the drink was too sweet, and most of the tacos did not live up to my expectations. I loved the chorizo one, and the soy pastor was good as well—my partner especially liked it. The chimichurri was dripping oil(not olive oil) so the taste(which was good) didn’t really matter in my annoyed state. The Baja and chunky queso tacos were okay—we didn’t enjoy them much. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend this place too highly. The restaurant is simple, and the service is quick. I wish I had tried the matcha horchata, but anyway… I’m sure it wouldn’t have been worth $7. The Starbucks matcha drink is really good, and the sweetness can be moderated, not here. My partner felt it was a 4-star experience. I felt it wasn’t really worth the ~$40 we spent. Read less

I ate here on a Saturday evening and must say that the food was quite nice. The restaurant was mostly empty, so the service was fast. I enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere and aesthetic of the dining area inside. However, I was served room temperature water without any ice, so that was a little peeving, and my vegan asada tacos that I ordered were a little dry and could’ve used more salsa, so I would recommend ordering extra in the future. Overall, Penelope’s Tacqueria is a great restaurant that I would recommend to any vegan trying to find a nice meal in Chicago. There was such a wide variety of options on the menu, and the prices were very reasonable. Can’t wait to come back again in the future! Read less

This was a cute place and the food was good but when I think of a Taqueria I think of queso and some other speciality items that they did not have. They were out of a lot of food items like the carne asada tacos, no elote, no sangria etc. I settled on chips and pico and the Mexican coquito which was VERY delicious. But I do enjoy tomatoes and I love coconut flavor. For the drinks I would definitely go back. Read less
Best Nachos, Rice & Beans I’ve had at a vegan spot! The portions are size-able and you’re sure to leave full. My favorite taco was the Baja.

🏡 Atmosphere: Beautiful aesthetic! There is even a wall of greenery to take cute pics by near the exit. Nice music, it was warm inside and smelt great upon arrival! 😋 Food: Had an order of chips and salsa to start off, then 4 steak tacos with a side of rice, jalapeno cheese fries and elote en vaso ! Everything was absolutely delicious as a non vegan I would have never been able to tell that I was eating a bunch of veggies! 🍵 Drinks: Ordered 2 pineapple margaritas, they were delicious! 🔥 Service: Staff was super patient & kind.
