There’s nothing I didn’t love about this place from the charming employees to the coffee to the food to the ambiance. I’m SO glad I found this place after landing at the airport super early, and hungry. Everyone behind the counter was helpful and I ended up ordering the breakfast platter (tofu scramble, potatoes, beans and tortillas). Sounded simple and filling, which it was but it was also FULL of flavor. For real, I’ve been making tofu scrambles for a decade plus and mine never taste this good. The latte was excellent too—recommend the pistachio milk (yum!!!) with a dash of lavender syrup. I also ordered several pastries to go to share with friends—the cheesecake and cinnamon rolls in particular being the ones I’m most excited to try. I wish I lived here so I could come all the time! Don’t miss the fresh and delicious pastries and hot food options (come early :)) Read less

So there I was, minding my own business, headed toward a totally different restaurant when—bam!—Miss Chickpeas Cafetel on Callaghan Road in San Antonio popped up like a delightful little plot twist in my lunch plans. The name alone caught my eye, and I figured, hey, why not shake things up? The moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the staff, which already made this detour feel like a good decision. The vibe? Super cute, cozy, and definitely a place with regulars (always a good sign). And while I’ll be honest—I was a little skeptical about vegan food (I mean, can it really compete with the meaty classics?)—that hesitation melted the second I laid eyes on their baked goods case. Vegan and gluten-friendly treats that looked like they just stepped off a dessert runway? Yes, please. Before I even touched a menu, I was already halfway sold. I chatted with the friendly staff, and one of them enthusiastically recommended the Breakfast Sammy. Throwing caution—and my meat-loving instincts—to the wind, I ordered it along with a German chocolate cupcake that was practically whispering sweet nothings from the dessert case. When the food came out, it looked great. The vegan bacon threw me for a second—it definitely looked different—but once I took a bite, I was pleasantly surprised. Not your traditional bacon texture, but flavorful and satisfying in its own right. The ciabatta roll was soft with just the right amount of chew, and the whole sandwich worked really well together. What made the experience even better? The staff came to check on me, genuinely interested in how I was enjoying my first dive into their menu. We chatted a bit, and they let me know their baked goods come from their local bakery right here in San Antonio. Major bonus points for supporting local. All in all, Miss Chickpeas Cafetel was a refreshing, feel-good surprise. It’s a great lighter option when you want something satisfying but not heavy. I’ll definitely be back to explore more of their breakfast offerings—and probably sneak in another cupcake (or two). If you’ve ever been curious about vegan food but hesitant to try, let Miss Chickpeas be your gateway. It was mine—and I'm glad I took the chance. Read less

I went in super excited to find gluten free treat options. The treats were delicious. I recommend this place for vegans & GF. Wish they had more plate options I was also looking for lunch. I asked questions because I had looked at the menu but the girl didn’t know if any of the lunch was GF. So I didn’t get to eat lunch but was happy I was about to get pastries & a latte w almond milk. I would def come back. Read less

This place is great and San Antonio is lucky to have it! Coming from the Montreal area where there is a number of really great vegan options in a number of different styles, I was pleasantly surprised to see the awesome lunch and baked goods offered here. The sandwich’s were delicious and so was the oatmeal cream things and cinnamon buns! Along with the quality, one of the other factors of its greatness is the really solid job it does of making originally wholesome vegan versions of familiar (both regional and Latin American) classics and comfort food. The setting/decor is also original and comfortable! The owner and workers are doing a great job and I look forward to going back next time I am in San Antonio visiting family. Please give it a try and support it! Read less
